Undergraduate Research Assistant

Isabel Virgen joined our lab while she was an undergraduate student in her last semester at UIC. Her research interests include mental health, disability, underserved populations, race/ethnicity, gender and sexuality, art as a healing practice, and more. Her academic goal is to complete her Bachelor’s degree (Major in psychology, minor in art) and then pursue a graduate degree to become a licensed clinician, either in counseling, clinical psychology, social work, art therapy, or something in a related field. Her career goal is to become an art therapist that works with people with disabilities, children, LGBTQ clients, and diverse communities. She has a passion for cultural competency and trauma-informed care training. Isabel feels called to help communities through advocacy and policy change in order to tear down the structural barriers that clients face that may lead them to seek therapy, such as structural inequality and discrimination. In her free time, she loves to paint and read books.
