FLOR Promotora
Celsa Arroyo is a Mexican mother of two children who has always been involved in her children’s schools. She volunteers with a group for breast cancer survivors: ELLAS. This organization also supports the fight for Empower Illinois state scholarships to continue supporting private schools. Some of her favorite hobbies are gardening, yoga, and meditation. Now, she is very proud to be part of FLOR and the FIESTA program.
Celsa Arroyo es una mamá mexicana con dos hijos siempre se a involucrado en las escuelas de sus hijos. Es voluntaria en un grupo de sobrevivientes de cancer de seno ELLAS también apoya la lucha por las becas del estado Empower Illinois para que sigan apoyando las escuelas privadas. Algunos de sus pasatiempos favoritos son hacer jardinería practicar yoga y meditación. Y ahora está muy orgullosa de ser parte del grupo que diseñó el programa FIESTA.

Dolores Contreras, or Lola, has worked with youth in different capacities in the Little Village and West Lawn, as well as surrounding communities; from volunteering, to facilitating, to eventually coordinating youth programming, she has 5+ years of experience working with, by and for youth and the entirety of low-income, immigrant, communities of color. She believes in the importance of opportunities being available for youth, especially those who are at-risk and living in underserved communities; thus, she hopes to continue catering her work for youth and/or community, whether it be administratively or through direct service. She graduated in 2018 from UIC with a Bachelors in English, with a Concentration in Creative Writing, and Sociology. She’s also a (Register Yoga Teacher) RYT-200 and a Licensed Zumba Instructor. She is a proud daughter of parents who came from Michoacán, Mexico. She enjoys coffee, yoga, singing along to music in car rides, dance parties with her nieces and nephews, writing, traveling with her partner, taking pictures of food and cuddling with her cat, Changa.
Dolores Contreras, o Lola, ha trabajado con jóvenes en diferentes capacidades en Little Village y West Lawn, así como en las comunidades circundantes; desde el voluntariado hasta la facilitación y, finalmente, la coordinación de la programación juvenil, tiene más de 5 años de experiencia trabajando con, por y para los jóvenes y la totalidad de las comunidades de color, inmigrantes y de bajos ingresos. Ella cree en la importancia de que haya oportunidades disponibles para los jóvenes, especialmente para aquellos que están en riesgo y viven en comunidades desatendidas; por lo tanto, espera continuar brindando su trabajo a la juventud y/o comunidad, ya sea administrativamente o a través del servicio directo. Se graduó en 2018 de la UIC con una Licenciatura en Inglés, con Concentración en Escritura Creativa y Sociología. También es (maestra registrada de yoga) RYT-200 e instructora licenciada de Zumba. Ella es una orgullosa hija de padres que vinieron de Michoacán, México. Le gusta el café, el yoga, cantar con música en los paseos, bailar en fiestas con sus sobrinas y sobrinos, escribir, viajar con su pareja, tomar fotografías de comida y acurrucarse con su gato, Changa.

Maria Ochoa was born in Morelos, Mexico. She is a wife and mother of five children and has lived in Back of the Yards since 1993 with her husband and one-year-old daughter. Since coming to the U.S., she has dedicated herself to being a homemaker and has worked mostly night shifts to be able to take care of her children. In 2012, an opportunity presented itself for her to participate in a volunteer parent program at her children’s school called “Padres Mentores.” This started another chapter in her life, and through this program, she has learned many things that have helped her with personal and leadership development in her community. Thanks to this opportunity, she has been able to help others, which she loves doing.
Maria Ochoa nació en México, en el estado de Morelos. Es esposa y madre de 5 hijos y ha vivido en Back of the Yards desde 1993 con su esposo e hija de 1 año. Desde que llegó a los EE.UU, se ha dedicado a ser ama de casa y a trabajar casi siempre en turnos por la noche, porque esto le ha permitido estar pendiente de sus hijos. En 2012, se presentó la oportunidad de participar en un programa para padres voluntarios en la escuela de sus hijos llamado “Padres Mentores”. Desde entonces, ha iniciado otro capítulo en su vida y ha aprendido muchas cosas que le han ayudado en su desarrollo personal y de liderazgo en su comunidad. Gracias a esta oportunidad, ha podido ayudar a otras personas, lo cual le encanta hacer.

Ofelia Carmona, is coordinator of the Parent Mentor Program with The Resurrection Project (TRP) Organization in the Pilsen and Back of the Yards neighborhoods. I am from Guanajuato, Mexico. I like to learn and that other people learn from all the resources that are in our communities. In this FIESTA project, I hope to learn and be able to take in all of the resources and information that will be provided in the different sessions. I like nature and dogs.
Ofelia Carmona, es coordinadora del Programa de Padres Mentores con la Organización de Proyecto Resurrección (TRP) en los vecindarios de Pilsen y las Empacadoras. Soy de Guanajuato, México. Me gusta aprender y que otras personas aprendan de todos los recursos que hay en nuestras comunidades. Actualmente estoy participando en proyecto FIESTA espero aprender y poder llevar este recurso de toda la información que se proveerá en las diferentes sesiones. Me gusta la naturaleza y los perros.
Enlace Chicago – Director of Education
Valerie (she/her/ella) is the Director of Education, and began working at Enlace in 2019 when she was hired as the Adult and Early Childhood Education Pipeline Specialist. As Director, she is focused on developing internal structures and processes that strengthen and support the entire educational pipeline. Valerie is working to integrate the Little Village Education Collaborative initiatives and priorities into the wider Education Department programs that will reinforce service delivery for Little Village students and their families.
Valerie (ella/her/ella) es la Directora de Educación y comenzó a trabajar en Enlace en 2019 cuando fue contratada como Especialista en el Programa de Educación para Adultos y la Primera Infancia. Como Directora, se enfoca en desarrollar estructuras y procesos internos que fortalezcan y apoyen toda la línea educativa. Valerie está trabajando en integrar las iniciativas y prioridades de la Colaborativa de Educación de Little Village en los programas más amplios del Departamento de Educación, con el objetivo de reforzar la prestación de servicios para los estudiantes y sus familias en Little Village.
